Molyneux’s problem focuses on the topic of dreams of blind people. Do they relate to visually based thoughts? What do they sound like? How do they create the narrative structures in the dreams of people that have never seen and whose subconsciousness does not create pictures? The name of the play comes from a philosophical question of a British natural science philosopher William Molyneux from 1688, which focuses on the human knowledge via blindness: if the human that was born blind was able to see again thanks to surgery, would he be able to recognise a cube or ball based on the visual? Or would he have to touch it first?
