Jan Stránský is a movement artist and choreographer/director working in the fields of physical theater and dance. Graduated at Accademia Teatro Dimitri, Switzerland in the field of Physical Theatre and currently studies MA of choreography COMMA at universities Codarts/Fontys, Netherlands. He is a co-founder of The nomad Theater company Žebřiňák that has brought theater to remote villages since 2008. Collaborated on different movement based projects as “Obsese” (Kateřina Stupecká) and “News Garden” (Michi Purucker).
In his work he often uses simple and ordinary movements and composes them in meticulously planned order to create moments that are both simple yet filled with complex sometimes even contradictory meanings and symbolism to give the audience opportunity to create their own story within the world he creates.
His use of light and scenography adds to the intricate web to either support or obscure the true meaning of a scene and together develop strong visual images that have their own significance apart from action happening on stage.
He tends to create situations with specific themes to put as a mirror for the public to reflect on by themselves rather than commenting or raising specific questions.
