The performative lecture maps social power relations, the fears they generate, and opportunities to overcome them other than by shutting down, displaying lack of energy and learned helplessness. It draws on examples from current cultural reality and, in particular, examines strategies of resistance, escape, shaping, and subtle forms of courage.
Philosopher Alice Koubová and performer Miřenka Čechová share general ideas and specific experiences on how to step out of the patterns of learned power relations. How does one not fall into indifference or obedience caused by fear? Taking a seemingly invisible but unanticipated action against power can be just as challenging as standing in front of crowd and speaking out. Why is it difficult yet empowering at the same time to take such action? Where does one find internal resources to do it? What is the chance of success? Will anyone be interested? What power can culture and artistic experience offer in this matter? Encompassing performance, music, and visual art, the show invites viewers to take an active stance, offering them an opportunity to overcome personal discomfort within the safe space of an artistic experience.
