Příbram Stand-up, or Family Is the Fundamental Unit of Life
In all modesty it seems that I have finally climbed out of the shithole that is my life.
At the age of ten I wasn’t familiar with words like microwave and coffee maker. We lived in a seventy-five square meters space, sometimes there were thirteen of us. Relationships? What exactly do you mean?
What I require from myself is to stay healthy. I try to believe that I am worth something and that there is a reason to get up every day. I seek your confirmation. One wants to kill herself and all that she finds at home is ibuprofen. Will I ever get out of this mess? I admire your perseverance...I couldn't stand myself. Your help is a bit too much. I love you like a bottle of booze. To be here feels as fun as being at a cemetery. I know how to handle emotions on stage, I’ve put some aside. Would you rather hear a joke? Today I am my worst enemy.
"The Invisible, a series about invisible women, was created in 2020 out of a personal desire to bring to light autobiographical stories of women, exceptional artists who, for various reasons, disappeared from the spotlight or were never even recognised. Whether due to political reasons, their age, their giving up on the career, or hereditary challenge, these artists created and continue to create in spite of the challenges. The first episode centres on Hana Frejková, whose father was executed in the Slánský trials, and Frejková, now seventy-eight years old, plays out and sings her own story. The second episode is about prima ballerina Barbora Vašká Kaufmannová’s decision to give up her career and the void she consequently faced. And the third episode is dedicated to actress Iris Kristeková, who despite the transgenerational traumas and extreme social situation she experienced was able to pursue her dream and pass on her strength. The goal of the project is destigmatisation and an empathic approach to those who have experienced something similar, suggesting solutions and small personal victories. After my experience with Baletky (Ballet Dancers) and the previous episodes of Invisible, I believe that art has the power to heal. Through art, audience can safely relive their own uncensored mental contents, whether consciously or unconsciously," says Miřenka Čechová.
All episodes of Invisible are still performed at the Akropolis Palace in production of the Tantehorse company, which examines pressing topics, employs non-traditional theatre forms and multi-genre projects, and offers opportunities to new creators.
